Vestige

painted stainless steel, salvaged steel rail

4 x 5 x 13 feet

Elmhurst, IL

installed August 2024

dedicated September 11, 2024

Commissioned by the City of Elmhurst for the First Responders Memorial Plaza at the Elmhurst Fire Department.

The two structures of Vestige are reminiscent of the twin towers of the World Trade Center. Although these forms may conjure memories of that dark day, their evolving structure and white finish evoke a sense of optimism and look to the future. At the core of the sculpture is a 13 foot steel rail, twisted and broken, and salvaged from the wreckage of 9/11.

The rail was gifted by the New York Port Authority to the City of Elmhurst.
